Create/Edit an Assignment, Quiz, or Simulation Exercise
Create an Activity
Note: Assignments, Quizzes, Simulations, and Simulation Exercises will often be referred to as an Activity within Physics LE.
Go to the Course page and click the Turn Editing On button.
Under the desired topic you created, click Add Assignment/Quiz or Simulation. In the window that opens select the option Assignment/Quiz/Simulation and then click the Add button.
The Settings: Assignment/Quiz/Simulation page opens allowing you to customize exactly how the Activity behaves. After setting options on this page click the Save and continue button. (Note: Detailed information explaining each setting can be accessed by clicking its help icon.)
Click the View/Add Problems & Simulations button (or select this option from the Activity Menu in the upper right corner) to open the View/Add Problems & Simulations page.
Click Access Physics LE Question Bank, then from the drop-down menu click Open Question Bank. Select the desired physics topic (chapter) within the question bank. Place a check mark in the box next to the chosen problems or simulations and then click the Add selected content button at the bottom of the question bank window.
Edit Point Values for an Activity
Go to the Course page and click on the Activity you wish to edit the point values.
Click on Activity Menu in the upper right corner and select View/Add Problems & Simulations.
INDIVIDUAL PROBLEM POINT VALUES: On the View/Add Problems & Simulations page, the point values assigned to individual problems can be edited by clicking the pencil icon associated with the problem or exercise. After entering a new point value press the Enter key on your keyboard.
ASSIGNMENT/QUIZ TOTAL POINTS: On the View/Add Problems & Simulations page, enter the desired value in the Scaled total points field and then click the Save button. This value will be used in the gradebook as the total possible points for the assignment or quiz. This can be used to achieve a desired total point value regardless of the Actual total points. If you don't wish to scale the total points, simply enter the value shown for Actual total points.
Note: If you wish to have an Activity not appear in the gradebook, set the Scaled total points value to zero. The Activity can be made to reappear in the gradebook by changing this setting to a nonzero value.
Preview How Students Experience an Activity
Go to the Course page and click on the Activity you wish to preview.
Click the Start now button, or alternatively click on Activity Menu in the upper right corner and select Preview.
The problems and simulation exercises will appear and behave exactly as experienced by students. The Navigation pane on the right side of the page can be used to access any selected problem.
Add or Remove Problems from an Assignment or Quiz
Go to the Course page and click on the assignment or quiz you wish to edit.
Click on Activity Menu in the upper right corner and select View/Add Problems & Simulations.
REMOVE PROBLEM: On the View/Add Problems & Simulations page, click the trash icon next to the problem you wish to remove from the assignment or quiz.
ADD PROBLEM: On the View/Add Problems & Simulations page, click the Access Physics LE Question Bank link that is positioned at the desired insert location to open the question bank and add a new problem.
Edit Activity Settings
Go to the Course page and click on the Activity you wish to edit.
Click on Activity Menu in the upper right corner and select Edit Settings.
On the Settings: Assignment/Quiz/Simulation page, edit the settings you wish to change.
When finished click the Save and return to Course page button at the bottom of the page.
Activity Made Available Only to Specific Course Section
If students have been placed into course sections you have the ability to create Activities that can only be seen and accessed by a particular course section(s). This provides a way to create different Activities with different due dates for various course sections. See the Instructor Guide Placing Students into Course Sections.
Add More Topic Sections to the Course Page
The Topic sections allow you to organize Activities under physics topics or physics units. Five topic sections are present initially, however, you can add as many Topics sections as you like. To add more Topics sections:
Go to the Course page and click the Turn Editing On button.
At the bottom of the Topic which appears last click the Add Topics link.
In the pop-up window enter the number of Topic sections you would like to add and click the Add Topics button.
